William Cody resigned from his position as Orono’s public works director last week after only a year in the role, City Manager Clint Deschene said on Tuesday.
Cody submitted his letter of resignation early last week and his last day will be Friday, June 27, according to Deschene.
Deschene said that Cody resigned because it “felt like the right time,” but did not comment further on why Cody decided to step down.
Cody did not return a request for comment on Tuesday regarding his resignation.
Before becoming public works director, Cody worked as director of facilities, maintenance and transportation for Regional School Unit 26.
Orono town councilors voted unanimously to hire Cody in May 2024, and he started the following month. He filled the seat left empty after Rob Yerxa resigned in February 2024 after 16 years in the position.
Cody’s previous jobs included operations director for Calais Regional Hospital, director of information technology for Washington County Community College, and millwright at the paper mill in Baileyville, interim Town Manager Cornell Knight said at the time of his hire.
