Another change is ahead for Bucksport’s restaurant scene, but it will be led by familiar faces.
Glenn’s Place, the family restaurant at 214 Route 1, is under contract to the owners of Sweet Cheeks Bakery. The bakery, which started on Verona Island in 2021 and added additional locations in Ellsworth and Holden last year, announced its intent to purchase on Tuesday.
Things will remain “business as usual” for the time being, Sweet Cheeks said in a post on Facebook, with a couple exceptions. The restaurant will be renamed Sweet Cheeks Diner, and a regular breakfast will be added to the menu.
“For years, so many that have graced our doorways on Verona Island have longed for a place to sit down and enjoy their breakfast,” the bakery said. “Now we are going to make it happen!”
Breakfast options will include omelets, overstuffed breakfast burritos, home fries, real corned beef hash, muffins, homemade toast and more, according to the bakery. Breakfast may start as soon as July.
Glenn’s Place opened in 2018, taking over a restaurant and pub business that had operated under other names at that site. The business — but not the land, which is leased — went on the market for $250,000 last July. While the outgoing owners had offered brunch on Saturdays until recently, they announced this past weekend that they were stopping the brunch.
“We know the pride they have in their food and the atmosphere they have created,” the Sweet Cheeks owners said in their announcement. “The reputation they have built helped to make our decision much easier.”
