Sister Wives’ Kody Claims He’s ‘Villainized,’ Compares Himself to Batman

Kody Brown is on the other side of his three divorces, but he still feels like a character in the DC Comics world — and not for his heroics.

Kody, 56, revealed during episode 1 of Sister Wives: One-on-One for season 19 that the movie that best describes his life now is Batman Returns. “If you don’t die the hero, you live long enough to become the villain,” he revealed during the Sunday, May 25, episode of the TLC series.

1992’s Batman Returns shows a turn in Gotham City’s support of Batman (Michael Keaton) after his relationship with Catwoman (Michelle Pfeiffer) comes to light. Instead of being loved for his heroics, Batman is scrutinized for every action.

When host Sukanya Krishnan asked, “Do you feel like you’re the villain?” he got quiet. “It’s about being villainized,” Kody explained. “It’s not about being the villain. It’s about being villainized.”

He confessed, “My mouth runs fluidly. It’s easy to make fun of somebody who doesn’t have a filter.” Kody added, “It’s hard to be accountable for things that you’re saying in a passionate moment.”

Kody hinted that his ex-wives, Meri Brown, Janelle Brown and Christine Brown, have painted him as a villain since their respective splits. (Christine, 53, announced her split in November 2021, Janelle, 56, followed in December 2022, and Meri, 54, confirmed her separation from Kody in January 2023.)

As Kody watched back season 19 with Krishnan, 53, he grew angry over backlash he’s received for loving fourth wife Robyn Brown deeper than his other partners.

Kody Brown Is Sister Wives’ Antihero — and Wouldn’t Have It Any Other Way

“It’s like you find higher love and then everybody just slaps you down for it,” Kody said. “There’s a divine aspect about my relationship with Robyn and we have been bitch slapped for it. I’m sick of it.”

He noted that after legally marrying Robyn in 2014 — and getting a legal divorce from first wife Meri — the dynamics shifted.

“I love this woman, and I want peace in this relationship,” Kody said of his only remaining spouse. “But I’m to the point where I’m walking around flipping two birds because I am so sick and tired of being guilted for loving Robyn.”

He further claimed he wanted to “elevate” all his relationships to be on the level with Robyn, 46, before his divorces but alleged Christine, Janelle and Meri didn’t get on board.

“No, I’m just going to tell you straight up, that’s 100 percent a lie. He didn’t. That was not the truth,” Christine fired back. “He was not available nor present nor accommodating to make that happen.”

Janelle joked it would have been “nice if he communicated that back then,” alleging “that’s revisionist history.”

Meri, meanwhile, clapped back at Kody’s claims, calling it unfair to say because each woman was unique. “We’re all supposed to be Robyn? I’m sorry. I am Meri. I’m not going to be Robyn,” she quipped. “I don’t want to be Robyn. I’m going to be my own individual person. I don’t want to be her.”

She added, “If they’re great together, that’s awesome. I think that’s really an unfair statement.”

While Kody’s exes got fired up over him allegedly rewriting their respective love stories, they all expressed happiness in their new lives.

Sister Wives’ Christine and Janelle Brown Deny Only Robyn Can ‘Speak Kody’

When they were asked which movie described them today, Janelle picked Fried Green Tomatoes. “Evelyn (Kathy Bates), she’s going to remake her life. She’s going to seize her power or whatever,” Janelle said, referring to her own independence.

Meri chose Wild about Cheryl Strayed, played by Reese Witherspoon, and her “journey of finding herself.” She explained, “It’s this beautiful story of so many experiences, lots of ugly and really painful and heavy parts and also some amazing, beautiful parts. And in the end, it’s just an amazing story that helped her become who she was.”

Christine said Everything Everywhere All at Once best resembles her life with husband David Woolley, whom she wed in October 2023. “It’s just chaos and we are just busy constantly. But I love it,” she shared.

Sister Wives: One-on-One includes four episodes airing on TLC Sundays at 10 p.m. ET.
