In a statement on Telegram, its CEO, Pavel Durov, alleged that a certain Western European government approached the platform asking it ‘to silence conservative voices in Romania ahead of yesterday’s presidential elections.’
He added that Telegram refused this request and emphasized that it won’t restrict the freedoms of its Romanian users. This has helped Telegram’s $TON token and some of the best altcoins rally in the past 24 hours.
While Durov didn’t directly name the government, the baguette emoji in his statement suggested interference from the French government.
