Ellen DeGeneres and wife Portia de Rossi have taken their $30 million Los Angeles home off the market following their high-profile move to the U.K.
In January, DeGeneres, 67, listed the modernist mansion, designed by famed architect Richard Neutra, for $29.99 million, according to Realtor.com. Now, DeGeneres and de Rossi, 52, are no longer listing the property for sale, perhaps choosing instead to hang onto one piece of U.S. real estate following their November 2024 U.K. move.
The Los Angeles home — known colloquially as “The Brown House” — boasts five bedrooms, six-and-a-half bathrooms and two kitchens. It was originally put on the market in March 2024 with a $33.9 million price tag, but was delisted after it failed to attract any buyers.
The property was built by Neutra in 1955, with its original owner’s family holding onto it for 40 years before selling it in 1995. DeGeneres and de Rossi purchased the home in 2022 for a reported $29 million.

Their listing promoted “The Brown House” as “a quintessential architectural masterpiece nestled in the prestigious enclave of Bel Air.”

A true encapsulation of living in a work of art,” the listing read. “This is a rare opportunity to acquire a piece of architectural heritage, offering a lifestyle marked by grandeur and exclusivity in one of the most coveted locations.”
It was reported in November 2024 that the couple relocated from California to the Cotswolds, a rural region of England around two hours outside of London.
Ahead of their move, DeGeneres and de Rossi sold a separate property in Santa Barbara, California for a staggering $96 million in August 2024. They later offloaded a separate two-bedroom, two-bathroom Montecito home for $5.2 million after only two weeks on the market.
A source exclusively told Us Weekly last November that DeGeneres is able to live a quieter life in her $18 million Cotswolds farmhouse because she is “definitely a lot less well-known” in the U.K.

“People know who she is but the thing about the Cotswolds is no one gives a f*** if you’re Kate Moss or the farmer’s wife,” an insider explained.
DeGeneres was soon spotted at the prestigious Soho Farmhouse, a luxury members club and hotel where A-listers like David Beckham, Victoria Beckham, Sharon Osbourne and Simon Cowell often visit.
“She was with two female friends walking from the car park towards the farm buildings where the clubhouse is — we passed on a stone bridge over a stream,” a fellow guest told Us. “She was dressed in a country casual way. She was super understated and no one was really paying much attention to her … but then you just don’t expect to see Ellen there as it’s more a haunt of U.K. celebrities.”
In December 2024, there were reports that DeGeneres’ Cotswolds farmhouse was damaged by flooding — though she quickly set the record straight.
“For those of you concerned, our U.K. farmhouse did NOT flood,” she wrote via Instagram.

Rosie O’Donnell also recently left the U.S. to resettle in Ireland following President Donald Trump’s election in November 2024. The former Rosie O’Donnell Show host told Us that she was intrigued to hear DeGeneres — whose hair has gone gray since her U.K. move — may have had political motivations for leaving the U.S. prior to the president’s inauguration.
“I’ve never really known Ellen to say anything political in her life, so I was surprised to read that she left because of President Trump. Like, that shocked me, actually,” O’Donnell, 63, told Us. “I’ve been a political person my whole life, not better or worse, it’s just a different way to be in the world.”
She continued, “I was very clear about the reason why I was leaving, and I don’t think it came as a surprise to anyone. We’re not really in each other’s worlds, and it’s been kind of awkward but you know what? I wish her the best. I wish that she has peace and love in her life and that she is OK.”
