A man allegedly assaulted a Portland police officer on Monday.
Nicholas Lavoie, 33, was charged with assault on a police officer and refusing to submit to arrest, according to Brad Nadeau, a spokesperson for the Portland Police Department.
Police spotted Lavoie about 12:18 p.m. near the Shaw’s on Washington Street. He had eight warrants out for his arrest, Nadeau said Tuesday morning.
When officers attempted to take him into custody, Lavoie allegedly resisted, striking one officer on the head and causing a laceration. He then allegedly continued to resist, leaving “significant scratches” on that same officer’s neck.
The officer was treated for his injuries.
Lavoie was taken to the Cumberland County Jail.
