Kendall Jenner put her modeling skills on full display on the 2025 Met Gala red carpet, wearing a standout suit worthy of the event’s “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” theme.

The Kardashians star, 29, looked as stylish as ever on the red carpet at the annual Metropolitan Museum of Art event on Monday, May 5, going bra-less underneath a gray blazer with a matching fitted skirt by Torishéju. She completed her look with a statement diamond necklace and wore her hair in loose waves.

Jenner has been a Met Gala staple since she made her debut at the event back in May 2014. Her style has grown with her over the years, wearing everything from a champagne-colored mermaid dress at her first Met Gala to her iconic orange, feathered look in 2019 and sky-high black, sparkly boots in 2023.

For last year’s “Garden of Time” dress code, Jenner rocked the red carpet in a gorgeous Givenchy gown that featured a plunging neckline and fringed sleeves. While the black-and-brown dress appeared like a two-piece set at first glance, the top and bottom were connected by nude, sheer fabric. She completed the look with a twisted, half-up hairstyle and a natural glam makeup look.

In a red carpet interview with Vogue correspondent La La Anthony, Jenner said she was the “first human” to ever wear the 1999 archival piece designed by the late Alexander McQueen. “It’s showed on a mannequin, so it’s amazing,” she added. “It was a miracle that it fit. It was a miracle that we found it, and it just feels meant to be and I’m so happy.”

However, online fashion sleuths were quick to point out that Winona Ryder was photographed wearing the dress in the ’90s. “I shot this image of Winona Ryder back in 1999, wearing this authentic Givenchy dress,” photographer Warwick Saint captioned an Instagram snap of Ryder, now 53, in May 2024. “Interestingly, Kendall Jenner claimed she was the first to wear this dress and a few people have reached out to me asking if it was authentic ~ it definitely was the authentic Givenchy dress for sure.”

At the time, a source confirmed to Us Weekly that the dress Ryder wore was a replica of the original dress, which was worn by Jenner at the Met Gala.

Ryder addressed the outfit drama in a July 2024 interview with Harper’s Bazaar. “I do remember that photo shoot. It was with my dear friend [and makeup artist] Kevyn Aucoin,” she recalled. “And I did wear it. I have pictures. The photographer gave me some prints. I’m in a tartan in one of them, and I’m in that dress.”

Jenner’s dark ensemble was one of two looks she sported during fashion’s biggest night last year. After the main event, she changed into another vintage Givenchy look for a Met Gala afterparty, this time opting for a white dress featuring a structured bodice resembling feathers and a flowy, high-low skirt.

“Wearing this dress was a complete honor!” she captioned Instagram pics of the angelic look. “Thank you to the house of @givenchy for letting me pull such special archival pieces 🤍 Givenchy by Alexander McQueen 1997.”

She continued to gush about the dress in another Instagram post three months later. “Didn’t know i could miss a dress,” she wrote in August 2024 alongside more snaps of herself in the afterparty outfit.
