An Etna woman was indicted for murder after she allegedly stabbed her boyfriend three times in the chest because spirits told her to do it.
A grand jury indicted Heidi Tasker, 36, on Wednesday for intentional or knowing or depraved indifference murder after she allegedly killed Luke Norris, 41, on March 25. She allegedly told 911 dispatch that she stabbed Norris and that he was no longer alive.
Tasker had a competency and criminal responsibility examination on April 4, according to court records. No results are available in court records.
She said she saw so much evil that she had to do good, according to the probable cause affidavit that outlined a 911 call Tasker made. In the call, Tasker says she stabbed Norris because the spirits made her do it and that the knife was sitting “right here,” the affidavit said.
The dispatcher asked Tasker to perform life-saving measures on Norris, but Tasker said he was “too far gone,” and that she waited to call 911 until he was dead, the affidavit said.
Tasker was told to put her daughter in the crib and then Tasker stayed on the phone with dispatch until the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office arrived and detained her, the affidavit said.
Once Tasker was in police custody, officers documented red brown stains on pants and sweatshirt, as well as around her fingernails, the affidavit said.
During an interview with police, Tasker said the voices told her to find the biggest kitchen knife and stab Norris, but that she paced the living room numerous times because she was hesitant to comply, according to the affidavit. The voices told Tasker her family was in danger and that stabbing Norris would keep them safe.
Tasker told police she stabbed Norris as hard as she could while he slept on the couch and that he came after her, the affidavit said. It went on to say Tasker demonstrated to police how she stabbed Norris two more times.
Tasker is in Penobscot County Jail. No future court dates are scheduled.
Tasker pleaded guilty to reckless conduct and manslaughter in 2011 for a crash that killed her boyfriend, 19-year-old Kale Page. She was driving a pickup truck when she lost control and it rolled over.
Tasker, then 23, was sentenced to 11 months for the reckless conduct and 10 years for manslaughter with all but nine months suspended.
She was charged with aggravated assault in October 2019 for allegedly hitting Norris with her car, WABI reported. She pleaded guilty to domestic violence assault in November 2019 and was sentenced to 30 days of incarceration.
In October 2008, a charge of assault against Tasker was dismissed in Penobscot County, according to previous reporting.
