Maine State Police arrested a Charleston man with outstanding warrants and his wife who allegedly wouldn’t pull over for a state trooper in central Maine on Tuesday.
A state police trooper saw Zebbie Thomas in a car with his wife, Pearle Thomas, on Townhouse Road in West Gardiner on Tuesday at about 1:30 p.m., Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a news release.
Zebbie Thomas had multiple active arrest warrants from other law enforcement agencies for felony robbery, aggravated assault and violating conditions of release, Moss said, adding that Zebbie and Pearle had thwarted police attempts to apprehend them multiple times in past weeks.
The trooper tried to pull over the car, but Pearle Thomas didn’t stop, Moss said. After a chase, the trooper stopped the Thomases’ car using a precision immobilization technique (PIT) maneuver, which involves using the front of the police cruiser to push sideways against its tail end of the other vehicle causing it to spin out.
Both Pearle, 34, of Augusta, and Zebbie Thomas, 33, were taken into custody without further incident, Moss said. Both were being treated at a local hospital for minor injuries and were to be brought to Kennebec County Jail after their release.
Pearle and Zebbie Thomas are charged with eluding, driving to endanger and failure to stop, Moss said.
