Kim Kardashian was robbed at gunpoint during a 2016 trip to Paris.

Kardashian visited the French capital during Paris Fashion Week, where she heard someone enter her hotel room.

“I knew someone was there, like, someone was there to get me. You feel it,” Kardashian recounted to David Letterman in a 2020 interview, noting she allegedly saw a group of men dressed up like policemen wearing masks before they demanded her diamond ring.

“I was like, ‘OK, this is the time I’m gonna get raped. Like, deal, this is gonna happen, just prepare yourself,’” Kardashian recalled. “So, I did and then — I don’t know why I’m crying, I’ve talked about this before — and then he tied me up with handcuffs and zip-ties and then duct tape and duct-taped my mouth and my eyes.”

Kardashian further noted that she felt she was going to be killed before the suspects left.

“I kept on thinking about Kourtney [Kardashian],” Kim added of her sister, who joined her in Paris. “I kept on thinking, like, ‘She’s gonna come home and I’m gonna be dead in the room and she’s gonna be traumatized for the rest of her life.’”

Multiple suspects were ultimately arrested in January 2017, and a trial was later scheduled for May 2025 — nearly nine years after the incident.

Revisiting What Happened

Kim traveled to Paris for Fashion Week in October 2016, bringing along a large case of jewelry worth over $10 million. One of the pieces was an expensive ring from her then-husband, Kanye West. Days before Kim traveled to the City of Lights, she showed off the bauble via social media.

While Kim was alone in her hotel room one night, five men disguised as law enforcement snuck into the space and demanded she hand over the ring. The reality TV star claimed the men also tied her up and pointed a gun at her.

Kim Kardashian Gave a Police Statement

Local French newspaper Le Journal du Dimanche published Kim’s statement to the police in January 2017.

“I heard a noise at the door, like, footsteps, and I shouted to ask who was there, but no one answered,” she said at the time. “I called my bodyguard at 2:56 a.m. Then, beyond the sliding doors, I saw two people arrive with the gentleman from reception, and he was tied up. Both men were hooded, one had a ski mask and he had a cap and a jacket with ‘police’ on it. The second man had the same ‘police’ clothes, but did not have any ski mask. … It was the one with the ski mask who stayed with me.”

She continued, “He took out a gun and I showed him the ring. He had gloves. He asked me where the jewels and the money were. And at that point, they tied me up and put plastic cables and Scotch tape on my hands, and then taped my mouth and my legs.”

The Arrests

There were 10 individuals charged in connection to the robbery, with police maintaining that the crime was an inside job. A trial will begin in May 2025.

Kim Kardashian Will Take the Stand

News broke in March 2025 that Kim would testify during the trial, and a source told Us Weekly at the time that the Skims founder was feeling “empowered” to serve as a witness.

“She went through a horrible ordeal, and this is giving her the power to fight back,” the insider exclusively told Us. “Kim feels the robbery changed her and made her stronger, and this is a symptom of that strength.”

What Has Kim Kardashian Said About the Incident?

Kim first addressed the situation during a March 2017 episode of her family’s E! show Keeping Up With the Kardashians.

“I was Snapchatting that I was home and that everyone was going out,” she said. “So, I think they knew Pascal [Duvier, my bodyguard] was out with Kourtney and that I was there by myself.”

According to Kim, the robbers, upon entry, “dragged me out onto the hallway on top of the stairs.”

“That’s when I saw the gun clear, like clear as day. I was kind of looking at the gun, looking down back at the stairs,” she recalled on KUWTK. “I was like, ‘I have a split second in my mind to make this quick decision. Am I going to run down the stairs and either be shot in the back?’ It makes me so upset to think about it.”

She added, “Either they’re going to shoot me in the back, or if I make it and they don’t, if the elevator does not open in time, or the stairs are locked, then, like, I’m f—ed. There’s no way out.”

The Trial

The trial began in Paris on April 28. On the first day, 10 suspects appeared in court. Kardashian is scheduled to testify in May.
