ELLSWORTH — Monday morning, employees from Bangor Federal Credit Union met with staff from two Ellsworth area food pantries (Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry and Hancock County Technical Center’s Food Pantry) and presented each a check for $5,000 to aid in each organization’s continued battle against food insecurity in Hancock County.
Food insecurity in Maine is a real problem. According to the Campaign for Ending Hunger in Maine, Maine ranks 14th in the nation for food insecurity with approximately 43 percent of Maine students requiring food assistance every day and nearly 16 percent of Maine seniors at risk of going hungry.
It’s in the spirit of alleviating this food insecurity that Bangor Federal proudly participates in the Maine Credit Union League’s Campaign for Ending Hunger. Since 1990, credit unions around the state have collectively raised more than $14.9 million for ending hunger in Maine. In 2024 alone, Maine credit unions contributed $1,303,706.40 to combat hunger, $31,250.45 of which was from Bangor Federal, its employees, and its members.
“Our whole team is dedicated to helping make a difference in our communities,” said Cody Morgan, marketing director at Bangor Federal. “That’s what makes moments like this so immensely special to us. We feel so incredibly blessed to be able to support them and their continued movement towards ending food insecurity in our neighborhoods, amongst our friends and in our families.”
