Police on Monday identified a woman who was killed in the central Maine town of Hartland earlier this month.
Maine State Police began investigating after receiving a call from the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office on April 12 at about 6:30 p.m. about a death at a residence on Canaan Road.
The deceased, identified by state police on Monday as 78-year-old Velma Withee of Hartland, was brought to the state medical examiner’s office in Augusta for an autopsy where her death was ruled a homicide.
Town tax records indicate that Withee owned property on Canaan Road, though police have not released the address where she died.
Police have not released her cause of death or any other information about the circumstances, which remain under investigation, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said.
Moss said there is no threat to the public.
