Eight people have been displaced after a Saturday fire at an Ellsworth apartment building.
The fire broke out in the two-story, multifamily building on Oak Street after some cooking was left unattended, according to the Ellsworth Fire Department.
The sprinkler system kicked in, extinguishing the blaze and containing it to the kitchen.
But the sprinkler system caused significant water damage in the building’s basement. As a result, at least eight people have been displaced, according to the Fire Department.
The building’s owner is arranging temporary housing.
No additional information was immediately available.
