A Waldoboro man allegedly strangled a woman to the point of passing out because she didn’t get him a Valentine’s Day gift.
Graham Deleo, 32, has been charged with kidnapping, domestic violence aggravated assault, domestic violence criminal threatening, criminal mischief, domestic violence stalking, violating a protective order and violating conditions of release, according to the Midcoast Villager.
After he allegedly violated her protection order, the victim called police and revealed the violence she endured allegedly at the hands of Deleo, including assaulting her and not letting her leave; biting her nose; punching her stomach; and putting his hands around her neck and lifting her off the ground, according to a police affidavit obtained by the Villager.
On Valentine’s Day, Deleo became angry that the woman hadn’t gotten him a gift. He allegedly held her down on the bed, pulled her hair and strangled her to the point of passing out, the newspaper reported.
When she regained consciousness, Deleo was panicked and apologized.
The woman told police it wasn’t the first time that Deleo had strangled her, but it was certainly the worst, according to the Villager.
Deleo was arrested last week at the Maine Mall in South Portland.
He appeared in court on Monday, and a judge set his bail at $50,000. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 2.
