The White Lotus season finale is almost here — and it doesn’t sound like fans will be thrilled with the ending.
Before season 3 comes to an end on Sunday, April 6, the cast and creator Mike White were asked about wrapping up such a chaotic installment of the hit HBO series.
“To be honest, I’m a bit of a head case right now. I’m crying in my car. This show is my whole life, then it’s over and I’m back in my house with my dog, trying to remember who my friends are and what did I do before the show,” White, 54, told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview published on Wednesday, April 2. “I don’t want to become one of those crazy people who’s lost the plot.”
He continued: “I had to take these MMPI psych tests, and they were like, ‘You’ve become one standard deviation less nice than you were in 2018.’ Yep, that sounds right.”
‘The White Lotus’ Season 3 Star-Studded Cast: Where You Know Them From
Patrick Schwarzenegger, who plays Saxon, noted that he was “just excited to watch the finale” because he has “no idea what happens.” Returning cast member Natasha Rothwell, meanwhile, has been told by many viewers that they wouldn’t be happy if her character Belinda was killed off.

While some of the cast didn’t get to know what took place in the finale, others simply didn’t remember. Parker Posey admitted she “forgot who died” after filming the last episode of the season.
“It was so stressful when I read it. The dark stuff, I blazed through,” she noted before Jon Gries added, “Whatever you think you know, you’re going to get it wrong.”
Charlotte Le Bon poked fun at the potential twists and turns, saying, “People are going to hate Mike White.” The creator didn’t confirm or deny whether it was possible but did share what he hopes people take away from the ending.
“My hope is that it’ll feel like a cathartic sad or a satisfying sad and not a ‘What the f***?’ sad,” he shared. “But people are going to have a million different opinions. You just hope you stick the landing.”
‘White Lotus’ Cast’s Quotes About Those Weird Incest Vibes Between Brothers
White’s insight on the finale comes amid certain offscreen drama related to the show making headlines. Composer Cristóbal Tapia de Veer recently admitted that creative differences with White led to his exit — but he didn’t tell the creator before quitting.
“I didn’t tell Mike for various reasons; I wanted to tell him just at the end for the shock and whatever,” Tapia de Veer told The New York Times on Wednesday. “Except I told the whole editorial team and music editor and producer and all that, but I didn’t think that they were going to tell him. At some point he heard about that.”
Tapia de Veer joked that his professional relationship with White reminded him of the 1978 French film La Cage aux Folles, adding, “You know how there’s Albin, which is like the star, and there’s Renato, who is the producer who is always taking care that Albin doesn’t lose his mind about something. Because Albin is the diva and Renato is the guy who is trying to make everything work. To me, the show felt very much like that.”
According to Tapia de Veer, a disagreement about the season 3 theme music — especially backlash over the lack of iconic “ooh-loo-loo-loos” in the intro — led to his departure.
Which ‘The White Lotus’ Scenes Were Cut Before They Even Aired?
“I texted the producer and I told him that it would be great to, at some point, give [the fans] the longer version with the ooh-loo-loo-loos, because people will explode if they realize that it was going there anyway,” Tapia de Veer told the outlet. “He thought it was a good idea. But then Mike cut that — he wasn’t happy about that.”

New episodes of The White Lotus air on HBO Sundays at 9 p.m. ET.
