A new month brings new resolutions to maintain that diet, to finally do those chores you’ve been putting off and to watch all the latest movies coming to Netflix.

In April, the popular streamer is adding over two dozen movies, many of which are good enough to recommend.

But one only has so much free time, so What to Watch selected the five best new movies on Netflix you should watch in April. One of them is a 2025 Netflix original starring Tom Hardy, while another is a crime classic starring two acting legends and Moe from The Simpsons.

‘Havoc’ (2025)

Gareth Evans may not be a household name, but chances are you know who Tom Hardy is and how badass he can be. The Venom actor and The Raid director are teaming up for Havoc, an action-thriller that’s been years in the making.

Hardy stars as Walker, a grizzled cop whose bad day just got worse when he has to protect a politician’s son who botched a drug deal. On the run from the gangsters who want the son dead and crooked cops who don’t want to be exposed, Walker must find a way out of this mess without dying in the process.

Havoc will stream on Netflix on April 25.

‘Heat’ (1995)

One of the greatest crime dramas of all time is back on Netflix. Heat stars Al Pacino as Vincent Hanna, a Los Angeles cop determined to capture a band of criminals who stole $1.6 million from an armored car. These thieves are led by Neil McCauley (Robert De Niro), who is just as determined not to get captured by Hanna and go back to jail. Their cat-and-mouse game will play out all over L.A., with each man’s personal life becoming increasingly entangled and disrupted by their mutual obsession.

A Guide to Netflix’s Biggest TV, True Crime and Movie Releases in 2025

Heat was a minor hit when it was first released, but its reputation has grown over the years. This is the first time Pacino and De Niro shared the screen together, and their tense meeting at a diner is already a classic movie scene. The impressive cast includes Val Kilmer as an accomplice, Ashley Judd as his unfaithful wife and Natalie Portman as Hanna’s troubled stepdaughter. Director Michael Mann wrote a book sequel, Heat 2, which is rumored to be a forthcoming movie starring Austin Butler and Adam Driver.

Heat is now streaming on Netflix.

‘Rudy’ (1993)

For Gen X sports fans, there’s no football movie as beloved as Rudy. The movie tells the inspirational real-life story of Daniel “Rudy” Ruettinger (Sean Astin), a young working-class man whose dream is to play football at Notre Dame. The only problem is that he is woefully unqualified — he doesn’t have the grades, money or athletic build to be a college pigskin player.

That doesn’t stop Rudy, though, as he works hard to make his dream a reality. But even when he’s enrolled in Notre Dame and makes it onto the football team, he’s prevented from playing by an unforgiving coach. Will Rudy ever make it out onto the field and compete as one of the Fighting Irish?

Rudy is now streaming on Netflix.

‘The Age of Innocence’ (1993)

Martin Scorsese is still best known for gangster movies like Mean Streets and Goodfellas, but the director took a stab at costume drama with 1993’s The Age of Innocence. The effort paid off big time — the Edith Wharton adaptation is one of Scorsese’s best, and features great performances by Daniel Day-Lewis, Michelle Pfeiffer and Winona Ryder.

3 Underrated Netflix Movies to Watch This Weekend (March 28-30)

In late 19th-century New York City, lawyer Newland Archer (Day-Lewis) becomes engaged to high-society debutante May Weiland (Ryder). Their union seems assured until the arrival of May’s cousin, Countess Ellen Olenska (Pfeiffer), whose marriage is shrouded in scandal. Newland can’t help falling for Ellen, but will he risk his social standing and May’s love to be with Ellen? And will Ellen betray her family to reciprocate Newland’s feelings for her?

The Age of Innocence is now streaming on Netflix.

‘Psycho’ (1960)

Alfred Hitchcock’s horror classic is back again on Netflix, in all of its monochromatic bloody glory. Marion Crane (Janet Leigh) is a bored real estate secretary who steals from her employer so she can start a new life with her cash-strapped boyfriend Sam (John Gavin).

A rainstorm prevents her from reaching him, however, and she makes an impromptu stop at a secluded motel in the desert. The only occupant is the motel’s owner, Norman (Anthony Perkins), and Marion will soon find out that when you check in to the Bates Motel, sometimes, you don’t check out . . . ever.

Psycho is one of the most famous movies in history, and helped birth a new genre of film: the slasher picture. Its scares and gore are less shocking today, but Perkins’ creepy performance and Bernard Herrmann’s violin-heavy score are just as chilling as ever.

Psycho is now streaming on Netflix.
