Kelly Clarkson is taking a shot at ex-husband Brandon Blackstock, it seems.
During a Thursday, March 27, appearance on Kylie Kelce’s “Not Gonna Lie” podcast, the singer and talk show host, 42, spoke candidly about being a working mom. Both mothers agreed that their kids don’t give them a pass for working — whereas their husbands get treated differently.
“Our oldest hit me with. ‘Oh, is it you’re leaving because you don’t love me?’” Kylie, 33, said, referring to 5-year-old daughter Wyatt, whom she shares with husband Jason Kelce. (The couple are also parents to daughters Elliotte, 4, and Bennett, 2, with a fourth baby girl on the way.)
“The best part is, is that I said to her, ‘Do you know when we talk about when dad — like during football season — dad travels once a week.’ I said, ‘You know when dad leaves and we talk about like, does dad want to leave?’ And she’s like, ‘No,’” Kylie continued. “I’m like, ‘So do you think mom wants to leave for work?’ And she’s like, ‘Well, I just think you could say no.’”

Clarkson noted that it’s “funny” because their kids weren’t taught to think like this.
“Even from a young age, like we didn’t teach them, just innately you’re like, he’s allowed to be somewhere, but you’re not,” Clarkson said. “That is like real interesting. Yeah, there’s a lot that I keep in … because coparenting is fun.”

“It’s like, ‘Oh, he couldn’t come because this,’” Clarkson continued. “I’m like, ‘OK, cool.’ Do you think I just leave and just sit in the park all day? It is funny. It’s taught though. Not taught, it’s just in there.”
The “Breakaway” singer added, “My son, by the way, I’m always like, ‘Yeah, mommy does work and that’s OK.’ Women and men work. It’s OK.”

Clarkson and Blackstock were married for seven years before announcing their split in 2020. The former couple were embroiled in a years-long legal battle over custody, assets and spousal support. While she hasn’t spoken too much publicly about the drama following their divorce, Clarkson has continued to take subtle jabs at her ex.
Earlier this month, Clarkson alluded to everything she’s gone through over the past few years while celebrating the 1,000th episode of her eponymous talk show.
“For 1,000 episodes, we have laughed together, we have cried together with beautiful stories, sang together with some people, danced together, celebrated and competed together,” she said during the March 20 episode. “I’ve lost, alone, a lot, and along the way, we found comfort in one another. And looking back, we are all incredibly proud of what we’ve built and the community we’ve created.”
