A man allegedly fired a gun more than a dozen times during a Friday standoff with police in Northport.
Thatcher Silar, 50, was charged with aggravated reckless conduct and domestic violence assault, according to the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.
Silar allegedly assaulted a woman at a Small Lane home Friday, the sheriff’s office said Wednesday.
Deputies and a state trooper went to the home after the woman called 911 Friday evening. They attempted to make contact with Silar, who then allegedly began firing a gun inside the home. Several rounds went through the front door in the direction of officers and others through the windows, according to the sheriff’s office.
Two nearby homes were evacuated.
A negotiator convinced Silar to surrender and leave the home unarmed. Silar, who was compliant, was arrested and taken to the Waldo County Jail in Belfast.
During a search of the home, police seized five guns under the state’s yellow-flag law and found Silar had fired 13 bullets, according to the sheriff’s office.
