A South Berwick man allegedly fatally wounded his girlfriend with a gun during an argument late last week.
Jeremiah Godfrey, 43, has been charged with murder, according to Maine State Police Lt. Aaron Turcotte.
Godfrey and his girlfriend, 37-year-old Sherri Sweet, were arguing at a Brattle Street residence Saturday night when they got into a struggle over a gun during which he allegedly shot her in the head, Turcotte said Wednesday.
Godfrey called 911 about 8:44 p.m. to report the shooting.
Sweet was taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital in New Hampshire, where she died about 10:15 p.m. Sunday.
The New Hampshire medical examiner’s office has ruled her death a homicide.
Godfrey was arrested about noon Wednesday in South Berwick. He is being held at the York County Jail in Alfred.
No additional information was immediately available.
