Weeks after Bangor closed a homeless camp, people are still living there. The city won’t say how many remain or how many have been moved into housing. An inn across the street from the camp being converted to housing for the homeless is weeks from opening.
Maine Republicans filed a people’s veto effort to overturn the $11.3 billion state budget. The bid could cause a state government shutdown, but qualifying will be a stiff challenge for the petitioners.
A Trump administration official said he ended a program for Maine newborns to get back at Gov. Janet Mills. The comment by Leland Dudek, acting head of the Social Security Administration, appears to conflict with his statement earlier this month that he didn’t intend to place an “undue burden” on new parents.
A historic Maine sportsmen’s camp has a new owner after more than a century. The camp had been run by the Maynard family from 1919 until last week when it was sold to the owner of an excavation company who hopes to keep the tradition going with some big changes.
