The Celtics are onto a new era. The Celtics ownership group has agreed to sell the team to William Chisholm, co-founder of Symphony Technology Group, according to the Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach.
Chisholm is a longtime Celtics fan, growing up in Georgetown, Massachusetts, as the winningest franchise in the NBA changes hands. Per ESPN, the Celtics were sold for $6.1 billion, the largest sale for a sports franchise in North America.
Symphony Technology Group is a private equity firm based in California, which Chisholm co-founded in 2002. He attended Dartmouth College, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree, before earning an MBA from the Wharton College.
Current Celtics co-owner Wyc Grousbeck is expected to remain governor, per the Globe, through the transition in ownership. The Celtics sale was announced last July by Grousbeck family.
