Real Housewives of Orange County star Gina Kirschenheiter is supporting her ex-husband as he recovers from a heart attack at the age of 40.

Gina, also 40, took to Instagram on Monday, March 17, to share a snapshot of Matt Kirschenheiter recovering in his hospital bed and posing with their daughter, Siena, 11, and a teddy bear. (Gina and Matt divorced in 2019 and also share two sons, Nicholas, 14, and Luca, 9.)

“Wow. We had a scary weekend!” Gina wrote in a caption. “Matt (the kiddos dad) suffered a heart attack Saturday! He’s only 40 years old!!”

Referencing Matt’s current wife, Britt Kirschenheiter, she added: “Thank god Britt rushed him to the hospital and all the hospital staff acted quickly!!”

Gina also posted glimpses of her blended family at the hospital, including her boys hanging out on the couch and Britt hugging Siena.

“The kids were very shaken up but thankfully we can be smiling bc he will be okay!” Gina said in her Instagram caption. “He came home today. The kids and Trav and I are so happy to have their dad back. This was too close of a call. Really puts things in perspective. ❤. We will all be changing our lifestyle and leaning into the healthy bc being there for our kids is the only thing that matters. ❤”

She thanked “everyone who has checked in on us,” and noted: “For anyone out there struggling to coparent, remember you are all a family and what matters most is that you all get to be there for your kids. Tomorrow is not promised, today is a gift.”

After divorcing Matt, Gina, a real estate agent, moved on with businessman Travis Mullen. She made her Orange County debut during season 13 in 2018 and remains in the cast alongside Shannon Beador, Tamra Judge, Heather Dubrow and Emily Simpson.

Beador and other Real Housewives shared their support for Gina in the comments section of her Monday post. While Beador, 60, replied with three prayer hands emojis, Gretchen Rossi, who formerly appeared on RHOC, wrote, “Omg 😱 Gina! How scary. Thank God he is ok 🙏🏻.”

Since her Housewives debut, fans watched Gina fall in love with Mullen, who also has three kids. The couple opened up to Us Weekly in December 2024 about their relationship as well as their joint real estate venture.

“I tell Gina all the time that she reminds me of the words from Taylor Swift‘s song ‘I Can Do It With a Broken Heart,’” Travis told Us exclusively at the time. “Not from the standpoint of a breakup, but because things are not always perfect or how we would like — super busy with six kids, other jobs, two dogs, intense social life, etc. — but we need to get our work done. Gina always shows up and crushes it.”
