Brewer fire crews responded to a fire in an apartment building at 266 Center St. in Brewer around 11 a.m. Friday.
The fire started in an apartment on the second floor of the building when a couch caught fire, according to Deputy Fire Chief Erik Tourtillotte. It’s unclear exactly what caused the fire.
The building’s sprinkler system in the unit had extinguished the flames by the time firefighters arrived, meaning only that unit sustained damage from the fire.

The apartment and one directly below it both sustained water damage from the unit’s sprinkler system, Tourtillotte said. Residents of those two units will likely be displaced while the damage is cleaned up.
No one was injured, according to Tourtillotte.
The 54,886-square-foot, three-floor apartment building is sandwiched between State and Wilson streets in Brewer and contains 48 one-, two- and three-bedroom units.
The building is managed by Community Housing of Maine and targets people with disabilities and those whose income is at 50 or 60 percent below area median income, according to the company’s website.
