A man allegedly caused $45,000 in damage at Sunday River over the weekend.
Jesse Bates, 33, of Mexico was charged with aggravated criminal mischief and violation of his conditions of release, according to the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office.
Bates allegedly crashed into the scan gates and left large, deep ruts from his dark-colored 2022 Subaru Impreza on the slopes behind the South Ridge Lodge at the Newry ski resort.
The cost of the damage was an estimated $45,000, the sheriff’s office said Wednesday night.
Deputies and the resort’s security quickly identified Bates as a suspect, and the Impreza was found at Bates’ home in Mexico, about 25 minutes away from Newry.
Deputies tried several times unsuccessfully to arrest Bates. He was eventually taken into custody about 8 p.m. Wednesday at his home in Mexico, according to the sheriff’s office.
He was taken to the Oxford County Jail in South Paris.
The investigation is ongoing.
