The debate over transgender individuals in sports has gained significant attention and deserves continued thoughtful discussion for fair policies. However, if you’re focused on the conflict between President Donald Trump and Gov. Janet Mills, you are a victim of distraction from larger, more pressing issues.
First, let’s all understand that Mills is the state’s executor. She enforces state law based on its best legal interpretation. She and the Maine Principal’s Association cannot change state law, nor can the U.S. executive make laws and order Maine’s executive to break the law.
Second, ask yourself what you’re willing to sacrifice for a policy on transgender sports participation. Would you trade your personal and financial data to tech giants? Would you accept the closure of hospitals serving rural Maine or sacrifice disaster relief such as what Maine received after the December 2023 coastal storms? Are you willing to jeopardize Social Security benefits for yourself or loved ones? Or allow children to suffer from trafficking and starvation? Would you support the U.S. joining a league of nations led by Iran, Russia, Belarus, and North Korea?
The current political drama over social issues is a deliberate distraction. Don’t fall for this tactic that diverts attention from more serious concerns that affect everyone’s future. Be cautious and stay focused on what truly matters.
