This Trump/Musk recklessness has gone way too far and needs to be stopped immediately. The gutting of agencies, the loss to farmers and fishermen, the elderly, outdoor enthusiasts, medical research, our universities, and now even the planned destruction of tens of thousands of historical photographs is unacceptable.
I know it, every member of Congress likely knows it, and every editor likely knows it.
I believe members of Congress who are sitting back and watching it happen are complicit if they don’t do something about it. They are complicit if they just talk but don’t act.
There are reasonable ways to cut the budget: Pick an agency, work with its leaders, examine its budget, research what the money actually does, then make suggestions for cutting the future budget. But letting a bunch of unvetted 20-somethings download government files, march out of the building, then make arbitrary and capricious decisions is a serious infraction. Revoking funding that has already been approved by Congress is unfair, disruptive, and endangers hundreds of thousands of American lives.
This simply has to stop.
I ask Sen. Susan Collins to do her work of building congressional coalitions that can quickly enact legislation to put an end to this madness. It appears the president is not mentally fit to be in office, and has abdicated his responsibility to protect the nation. America is great already, but Donald Trump is doing his best to destroy it.
This can not wait for the next round of elections.
