A 22-year-old man has been jailed for two years after being caught with indecent images of children.

Brandon Miller was arrested after police searched his home in Haddington, East Lothian, last September.

Electronic equipment was seized and analysed, with indecent images of children recovered, Police Scotland said.

Sheriff Gillian Sharp said both Miller and another man “colluded in planned, deliberate, targeted abuse of vulnerable children”.

The sheriff described the offences as “utterly depraved”, adding: “The level of harm inflicted is incalculable.

“In addition, some of the images found on your devices fell into the most extreme category.

“Such is of the gravity of the crimes which you have committed, a custodial sentence is the only appropriate disposal in your case notwithstanding that you require to be sentenced as a young person and a first offender.”

Miller last month pleaded guilty to multiple offences, including sexual assault, the possession, taking and distributing of indecent images of children, and inciting another person to commit sexual offences against a child.

At Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday, he was handed a four-year extended sentence – with two years in jail and two years on licence once released back into the community.

Miller was also placed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely and made subject of a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) for seven years.

Additionally, he was banned from contacting one of his victims for 10 years.

‘Utter contempt for child victims’

Detective Inspector Adrian Ure said: “Brandon Miller showed utter contempt for the child victims and the horrific sexual abuse they suffered in the images and videos he was taking, viewing and distributing.

“He may have thought the internet provides anonymity and his appalling offending would go undetected.

“His arrest and sentence show this is not the case and no matter what steps you have taken to avoid detection, you cannot hide behind a computer.”
