An art teacher in western Maine is accused of sexually exploiting a minor and trying to coerce the victim to destroy evidence.
Jan Barlow, 47, of Auburn was charged with sexual exploitation of a minor and tampering with an informant, witness, juror or victim, according to the Sun Journal.
The Spruce Mountain school district superintendent placed Barlow on paid leave in February after getting a complaint from a parent about an inappropriate relationship with a student.
Due to the nature of the complaint, police were contacted and an investigation into Barlow began.
According to the Sun Journal, Barlow was listed as an art teacher at Spruce Mountain High School in Jay on the district’s website.
He is accused of trying to get the victim to destroy evidence.
The Sun Journal reported Barlow was arrested Saturday, and he is being held at the Franklin County Detention Center in Farmington without bail.
