Grosse Pointe Garden Society showed Tucker forgiving Catherine for her affair — but is it really that easy?

During an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, Aja Naomi King shared her initial reaction, saying, “When I read that episode where I admit to him what I’ve done and the way he reacts, I was like, ‘What is this? What’s going on?’”

King, 40, recalled finding Tucker’s (Jocko Sims) response “bizarre” before she saw where the story was going.

“I thought it made it so interesting because you never see that kind of reaction to someone having an affair. And then having that conversation with your spouse and what they choose to do,” she noted. “From there we go with it between these two characters and how they’re figuring out how to move this relationship forward.”

‘Grosse Pointe Garden Society’ Star-Studded Cast: Where You Know Them From

Grosse Pointe Garden Society, which premiered in February, follows four members of a suburban garden club who find their lives intertwined by scandal, mischief and a shared secret about a murder. In addition to the mystery at the center of the series, King’s character, Catherine, has her own arc revolving around her home life.

“We learn some other things and it’s like, ‘Oh, maybe it’s not so OK. Maybe there are some other things on the horizon yet to be revealed when it comes to how Tucker really digests this information,” King teased of how the affair from the pilot will continue to play out. “But it’s really exciting getting to play that out. You just have to wait. There’s always a twist and it’s never straightforward. It’s never super easy.”

There’s also the small issue of the body Catherine and her friends are burying in the opening scene of the show. While Grosse Pointe Garden Society doesn’t give away the victim’s identity, King and the rest of the cast like it that way.

“With other shows, you find out who’s getting killed and the premise of the mystery becomes the why or the how. We’re giving audiences the fun of not knowing anything — just like these characters going into it — not knowing that this is where they’re going to end up,” King teased. “It’s exciting for all of us to be on that ride together. Because we didn’t know for the bulk of filming. It’s so satisfying. I’m really proud of what they’ve done there.”

What to Know About NBC’s Murder Mystery ‘Grosse Pointe Garden Society’

King reflected on her experience as an actress with the “not knowing.”

“That was exactly what it was for me on How to Get Away With Murder. But the way I attempt to approach [Catherine’s scenes in the future] is people are so complicated, and we never know how we’re going to react to things in the moment,” she continued. “It really is like any choice you go with, you can just commit to in that moment. I was just trusting the writing and trusting the guidance.”

Grosse Pointe Garden Society airs on NBC Sundays at 10 p.m. ET, and new episodes are available to stream on Peacock the next day.
