Mislabelled packs of paracetamol recalled – as customers urged to ‘immediately’ stop using tablet

People have been told to “immediately” stop using packets of paracetamol from Boots after a packaging error.

The affected foil blister packs of 16 tablets inside paracetamol boxes were incorrectly packaged as “Aspirin 300mg Dispersible Tablets” despite actually being 500mg paracetamol tablets.

The UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) urged customers to check if their packs have the batch number 241005 on the bottom of the box.

“If affected, they should stop using the product immediately and return it to a Boots store for a full refund, with or without receipt,” the agency said.

The MHRA said customers should not keep the box, even if the error is known, as it could lead to an incorrect dose being taken.

Customers should also alert others if the tablets were brought for someone else.

Boots also posted on its official Facebook page to warn customers of the recall.

It added the supplier, Aspar Pharmaceuticals Limited, confirmed the tablets in the blister packs are paracetamol and not aspirin, and are conducting a “full investigation” into the issue.

Dr Stephanie Millican, MHRA deputy director benefit risk evaluation, said it is “vitally important” to check the packaging.

“If the batch number is 241005, you should stop using the product and return it to a Boots store for a full refund,” she said.

“If you are unsure which pack you have purchased or have taken Boots Paracetamol 500mg Tablets and experienced any side effects, seek advice from a healthcare professional.”
