
Sophomore Julia Pellerin continued to haunt her father’s alma mater.
The All-Hockey East first team pick scored a pair of goals and assisted on another to lead her third-seeded Boston College hockey team to a 4-3 victory over sixth seed University of Maine in their league quarterfinal on Saturday at the Conte Forum in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
Pellerin, daughter of 1992 UMaine Hobey Baker Award winner Scott Pellerin and wife Jennifer, had three goals and two assists in a 5-0 regular season win over the Black Bears.
Scott Pellerin is UMaine’s second-leading all-time scorer with 223 points and he went on to have a productive 573-game National Hockey League career.
BC had outscored UMaine 13-2 in their three regular season victories over the Black Bears but it was a different story on Saturday as the Eagles had to overcome a pair of one-goal deficits to advance to the semifinals.
BC, 21-12-2, will now face arch-rival and second seed Boston University, 23-11-2, in Wednesday’s semifinals with top seed UConn, 23-11-2, taking on fifth seed Northeastern, 22-13-1, in the other semi.
Elise Morphy gave UMaine a 1-0 lead 4:16 into the game with her third goal of the season but the lead was short-lived as Alanna Devlin tied it up just 2:16 later. It was her seventh of the campaign.
Mikayla Boarder restored a one-goal lead for UMaine 52 seconds into the middle period with her eighth goal, but Pellerin tied it with her 19th at the 4:32 mark.
Keri Clougherty’s power play goal just 1:05 later supplied the Eagles with their first lead of the game. It was her fourth.
Jamie Grinder’s first goal tied it for UMaine 3:06 later and it came on the power play.
But, just 12 seconds later, Pellerin scored what proved to be the game-winner.
Kate Ham had two assists for BC with Pellerin, Lauren Glaser, Kiley Erickson, Sammy Taber and Olivia Maffeo notching one apiece.
Boarder had an assist to go with her goal with Ava Stevenson, Raegan Wurm, Brenna Curl, Kendall Sundby and Mira Seregely each earning an assist.
Sophomore Boarder and senior Seregely each concluded their seasons with a three-game points streak. Boarder had two goals and three assists and Seregely had three assists.
Grace Campbell finished with 25 saves for the Eagles while Kiia Lahtinen stopped 23 shots for the Black Bears including all 13 shots she faced in the third period.
UMaine wound up 11-21-3.
