A Waterville man allegedly set fire to an apartment building last spring.
Elijah Yeaton, 31, has been charged with attempted murder and arson, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Yeaton allegedly started the fire at the Front Place apartment building in Waterville about 12:54 a.m. on May 4, 2024.
Firefighters quickly contained the blaze, and the Maine fire marshal’s office determined the fire was intentionally set on the second-floor porch to the building’s rear entrance, Moss said Friday.
No one was injured in the fire.
Yeaton was known to one of the building’s residents and was familiar with it, according to Moss.
Yeaton, who was already in custody at the Kennebec County Jail in Augusta for an unrelated case, was arrested Thursday on the above charges.
He has been indicted by a Kennebec County grand jury.
No additional information was immediately available.
