The Republican-controlled Congress is working to pass a budget that will likely slash veterans’, Medicare, Medicaid and SNAP benefits and extend the 2017 tax breaks that primarily benefitted the wealthy. While much has been made of the cruel and thoughtless cuts to the federal government made by Elon Musk on behalf of the current president, this activity is largely a distraction. Indeed, the U.S. House of Representatives has proposed a budget that increases the deficit by $2.8 trillion through fiscal year 2034.
The president and his White House minions are seemingly happy to have feckless politicians and even Musk take the blame for his betrayal of ordinary Americans. Make no mistake. We are less safe, less financially secure, less respected and less great because of Donald J. Trump.
