President Donald Trump apparently doesn’t understand that Maine Gov. Janet Mills has compassion and empathy with the constituents she serves. And Mills understands that she serves her constituents, not the other way around. I believe the president has much to learn from our governor’s role model.
Gov. Mills has worked as the first woman district attorney in New England, and then as Maine attorney general for many terms. She understands issues her constituents face, and she understands and accepts teenage transgender girls for who they are, and she also likely understands that suicide has a very high instance in transgender people. She shows empathy as a leader and as a person.
I believe Mills makes Maine a safe place where all our children can thrive.
