
Two Maine men have been arrested after leading police on a high-speed chase in a stolen U-Haul van before crashing into a FedEx truck in Winthrop.
Police received reports about a U-Haul van driving erratically on Route 202 in Monmouth about 1 p.m. Tuesday. It was then discovered that the van had been stolen in Auburn.
An officer spotted the U-Haul van at the intersection of Main Street and Route 202 in Winthrop around 3:40 p.m. Police tried to pull the van over, but the driver allegedly took off.
Police said speeds exceeded 90 mph during the chase.
The chase ended when the U-Haul van crashed into a FedEx delivery truck on Winthrop Center Road in Winthrop, according to police.
Police say the driver of the stolen U-Haul van, 25-year-old Ronald Hinkley Jr. of North Monmouth, and his passenger, 31-year-old Robert Hermanson of Warren, were arrested and taken to the Kennebec County Jail in Augusta.
The driver of FedEx delivery truck, a 59-year-old Old Orchard Beach woman, was treated at the scene.
Both vehicles were totaled in the crash.
