Former Wales star Louis Rees-Zammit has been given another chance in the NFL, a year after he quit Welsh rugby.

The 24-year-old left the game in Wales ahead of last year’s Six Nations championship.

The announcement about his future comes at a difficult time for Welsh rugby, who have suffered a record string of defeats.

Last week, Wales parted ways with head coach Warren Gatland, bringing to an end his second stint in charge of the national side.

Rees-Zammit joined the NFL‘s international player pathway (IPP) and initially signed for the Kansas City Chiefs as a member of its practice squad.

He then signed for the Jacksonville Jaguars, but was not selected as part of the club’s 53-man roster ahead of the 2024-25 season.

He travelled with the Jaguars to London in October when the team played at Wembley, where he met Prince William and showed him the ropes.

His contract at the club expired in January and the former Wales winger became a free agent.

But Rees-Zammit, who also played for Gloucester and was part of the British and Irish Lions team in its 2021 campaign, has now been re-signed to the Jaguars’ active roster as a wide receiver.

He will now compete for a place on the club’s 53-man roster ahead of the start of the new NFL season in September.

“I’m excited to extend my stay in Jacksonville by signing for another year,” Rees-Zammit said in a statement via the Jaguars.

“While I know it was a tough season on the field for the team, I think I made some great progress with my own game and I’m looking forward to continuing the hard work and advancing my skills even more, and believe that Jacksonville is the place for me to do that.”
