When I voted for Rep. Jared Golden this fall, I voted for him knowing that if Donald Trump was elected that we would have a representative who would hold him accountable but also work with him to benefit Maine. Those of us who actually live in the Second Congressional District know that our neighbors do not have the luxury of electing a member of Congress to purely obstruct a president that we don’t like. Nor do many of us want that, though I didn’t vote for him, the district voted for Trump decisively.
We need a member of Congress who is cool, calm and collected in the face of uncertainty and chaos. We have that in Golden. We are represented by a man willing to do battle for us, but also willing to set his ego aside and work with people he sometimes disagrees with to ensure that Northern Mainers have the support from our federal government that they need.
I applaud Golden for calling it like he sees it; condemning Elon Musk’s behavior but remaining willing to work toward government efficiency. That is the kind of mature leadership that the Second District and America needs.
