A man has died after police shot him Wednesday night in Lincoln.
Derek Beach was allegedly trespassing at a Whalen Street residence about 8:36 p.m. in violation of both a protection from abuse order and bail conditions, according to Lincoln Police Chief Lee Miller.
Officers attempted to negotiate with Beach, but when he didn’t respond to their requests, officers used a stun gun on him, Miller said Thursday morning.
Beach allegedly then lunged at them with a knife, and Sgt. Michael Wilson and Officer Kristofer Milner shot him.
Beach died at the scene, Miller said.
Wilson and Milner have been placed on administrative leave, as is standard procedure. The Maine attorney general’s office is investigating the shooting, which is standard procedure whenever a law enforcement officer uses deadly force in the state.
No additional information was immediately available.
