Maine universities would lose $7.5 million under Donald Trump’s research cuts. Most of the affected research is at the University of Maine, but some of the awards are tied to the University of Southern Maine. Sen. Susan Collins called the cuts “poorly conceived.”
This new program to keep kids out of the justice system is a first for Maine. It comes out of a local grassroots effort to reduce juvenile crime by addressing its root causes.

V. Paul Reynolds recalls saving his family “trappers shack” from the elements and the state. “The leaning shack was about 12 by 14 feet. It was weathered, old boards covered with tar paper. The paper had been partially torn off, apparently by a bear as indicated by the claw marks.”
