Two Massachusetts men face a slew of drug charges after a chase in South Portland.

Hamza A. Mahamud, 21, of Roxbury, Massachusetts, was charged with reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, aggravated criminal mischief, unlawful trafficking in cocaine, unlawful trafficking in marijuana, unlawful possession of methamphetamine, aggravated trafficking in heroin/fentanyl powder, unlawful possession of cocaine base, operating without a license, failure to stop and driving to endanger; while Gerald A. Daughtry, 33, of Roslindale, Massachusetts, was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, unlawful trafficking in cocaine, unlawful trafficking in marijuana, unlawful possession of methamphetamine, aggravated trafficking in heroin/fentanyl powder and unlawful possession of cocaine base, according to the South Portland Police Department.

Mahamud was allegedly speeding on Westbrook Street about 1:30 a.m. when he passed a police officer, who then attempted to pull him over.

But Mahamud allegedly didn’t stop when the officer turned on his emergency lights and siren, leading the officer on a chase through the Brickhill neighborhood and onto Osprey Circle, where they reached a dead end.

Once at the dead end, Mahamud allegedly went into reverse and backed into the police cruiser, becoming stuck to its front bumper.

Mahamud and Daughtry were ordered out of the car at gunpoint, police said.

During a search of the vehicle, police found suspected drugs allegedly disguised in popular candy packaging, as well as a knife, drug equipment, cash and cellphones.

No one was hurt in the chase.

Mahamud and Daughtry were taken to the Cumberland County Jail in Portland, where they are being held on $30,000 bail.
