Police have identified the suspect in Wednesday’s shooting inside the Maine Mall in South Portland.
Ahmed Basheer Awad, 20, of Westbrook remained at large Thursday morning, according to the South Portland Police Department.
He is wanted on a charge of elevated aggravated assault, though other charges are expected.
Awad allegedly shot someone inside the Maine Mall on Wednesday afternoon. He left the mall through the food court exit after the shooting.
The victim was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland.
The shooting was described as an “isolated incident,” and police said there isn’t a general threat to the public. But police have warned the public to not approach Awad if spotted.
