The pro bono clinic in Bangor is run by Husson University students and their professors

BANGOR — Husson University’s SOARing Eagles Healthcare Clinic at 79 Marshall Road in Bangor has reopened for the spring semester with new services and a research project that could benefit clients.

The pro bono clinic is run by students and professors from Husson University and provides free physical therapy care to uninsured and underinsured patients. This year, the clinic will also provide occupational therapy services through a hand therapy clinic.

“We’re pleased to continue offering valuable services to the community at the SOARing Eagles Healthcare Clinic,” said Dr. Kimberly Steinbarger, an assistant professor in Husson’s School of Physical Therapy and the director of the Soaring Eagles Healthcare Clinic. “While our students extend their learning in a real-life setting, our patients receive holistic, individualized treatment.”

Launched in 2014, SOARing Eagles is one way Husson students get hands-on experience in providing physical therapy services to patients. Now occupational therapy students will also get that real-life training, better preparing them for the rigors of the workplace.

“This is a great addition to our experiential learning opportunities for occupational therapy students at Husson and we’re excited to work with the School of Physical Therapy to serve patients in our community,” said Academic Field Coordinator Andrea Sornberger.

Patients also have the option of participating in a new physical therapy research study on fatigue self-management designed to see if an educational intervention, based on pain science, is effective in reducing feelings of fatigue.

The physical therapy clinic will be open Monday and Wednesday afternoons this semester by appointment. For a physical therapy appointment or to learn more, call 207-941-7761 or email [email protected]. The hand clinic will be open on Wednesday from 3-6 p.m. by appointment. For more information about occupational therapy options, email [email protected].
