The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for a fast-moving snowstorm that’s expected to sweep the state between Sunday afternoon and Monday evening.
Heavy snow is possible, with accumulations of more than 6 to 9 inches depending on location, according to the National Weather Service.
The snow will start earlier in the day Sunday in southern, central, and western Maine and will be on the lower end of the accumulation scale, with snow ending Monday morning.
In Downeast Maine and in the Penobscot valley, accumulations of more than 9 inches are possible starting Sunday evening and continuing later on Monday. The weather service says that winds could gust as high as 30 to 35 mph, with snowfall rates approaching 1 to 2 inches per hour in some areas.
The weather service also warned that Monday’s commute could be affected.
