University of Maine sophomore goalie Albin Boija is one of 35 goalies named to the 2025 Mike Richter Award Watch List.
It was announced earlier this week by the Hockey Commissioner’s Association.
The Mike Richter Award goes to the nation’s top Division I goalie.
Goalies qualify by meeting minimum standards in goals-against average (less than 2.30) and save percentage (greater than .920).
Boija entered Friday night’s game against the University of Connecticut with a 1.55 goals-against average, which is second best in the country behind Minnesota State’s Alex Tracy (1.45).
Boija’s .931 save percentage is tied for eighth among goalies who have started at least 10 games.
He is also third in wins (14-4-2), and tied for third in shutouts with three.
Boija’s 1.55 GAA is the fourth-best mark by a Hockey East goalie through their first 20 games since the start of the 2005-06 campaign.
The 6-foot-1, 195-pound native of Sundsvall, Sweden, has held opponents to two goals or less 16 times in his 20 games. In addition to his three shutouts, he has given up one goal six times and two goals seven times.
Last year, as a freshman, Boija posted a 2.01 GAA, which was third best in the nation among goalies at the 64 Division I schools. His .916 save percentage was 19th.
Former UMaine goalie Jeremy Swayman won the award in 2019-20 before signing with the Boston Bruins.
The list will be reduced to approximately 12 semifinalists within the next three weeks and the committee of voters will choose a winner from three finalists during the NCAA Frozen Four in St. Louis on April 10-12.
The committee is composed of coaches, administrators, scouts and media representatives.
