Tottenham footballer Rodrigo Bentancur has said he is “all good” after suffering a concerning head injury in Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup semi-final against Liverpool.
The 27-year-old midfielder landed awkwardly after attempting a diving header 15 minutes into the first leg match and did not get back up.
Players rushed to his aid before the medical team surrounded him for about 10 minutes, eventually moving him onto a stretcher and taking him off the pitch.
Tottenham later posted on social media to say Bentancur was conscious, talking and would go to hospital for checks.
After the team’s 1-0 victory at home, Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou said: “All I know was he was conscious when he was coming off the field and he’s been taken for observation but I’m not really clear.
“It was a head injury and there was concern from players out there, so there was something going on.”
Later he told Tottenham’s Review Show: “There’s nothing too detailed [at this stage]. He was conscious when he came off the field and he’s been taken to hospital for some observations so we’re hoping he’ll be okay.
“It was pretty distressing at the time, seeing him go down like that, for the players. Dealing with adversity, these players just compose themselves and responded to it really well.”

Bentancur posted a photo of himself with his girlfriend Melany La Banca shortly after midnight, writing that he was “all good” and thanking people for their messages of support.
Tottenham have not said whether the injury is expected to keep the midfielder on the sidelines ahead of their FA Cup third round tie against Tamworth on Sunday.
The Uruguayan has already spent much of the season unavailable, having been suspended for seven games for an alleged racist remark made about South Korean teammate Son Heung-min in a TV interview.
