
U.S. Route 1 in Littleton is temporarily closed Friday due to a possible natural gas leak from a truck.
The road is closed near the Littleton Pit Stop at 1678 Route 1 due to a potential natural gas leak from a trailer truck, the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office posted on social media.
Motorists should seek an alternate route. One route is via Shanks Road to Ross Ridge and then Carmichael Road, several residents posted.
Versant has shut off power in the area at the request of police and fire personnel, affecting 427 customers, according to its website.
The power was cut for safety reasons, a sheriff’s office spokesperson said.
Houlton High School has set up a warming shelter for those without power, the post stated. The Pines Grill in Monticello reported they are open for those who need to warm up.
