The longtime owners of Bangor Wine and Cheese Company in downtown Bangor announced on Monday that they’d be selling the business to a new owner.
Eric and Christine Mihan, who purchased the store in 2009, will sell it to Annie Cutler. The store will close on Dec. 31 of this year ahead of a two-month renovation before Cutler reopens sometime in February.
“We’re thrilled to see Bangor Wine and Cheese evolve under Annie’s leadership,” said Eric Mihan. “Her passion for the community and her creative vision will bring new life to the business while honoring the foundation we’ve built. We are confident loyal customers and new visitors alike will be delighted with what’s ahead.”
Cutler is no stranger to the food and beverage industry. Her husband, Bob Cutler, owns Novio’s Bistro, just a few buildings up Hammond Street from Bangor Wine and Cheese Company, which is located at 86 Hammond St. Cutler said in a press release on Monday that she plans to keep most of what the Mihans brought to the store while adding in some new elements.
“This is more than just a new chapter — it’s a bit of a new beginning,” Annie Cutler said. “Loyal customers will still find the exceptional wines and cheeses to love, but they’ll also discover fresh dairy, artisan breads, kitchen goods, and specialty items that make every visit a true culinary adventure. I’m excited to reimagine this iconic store while staying true to its roots.”
Bangor Wine and Cheese Company first opened in 2000 under the ownership of Leslie Thistle. In the ensuing years, it has expanded to offer an array of craft beers, gourmet food items and other inventory. It has been in the same Hammond Street location for its entire existence.
