The Wanted s Max George Says He ll Be Spending Christmas in the Hospital for Heart Issues 063
Max George.

Max George is currently in the hospital being treated for issues with his heart.

“Yesterday I felt really unwell and was taken into [the] hospital,” The Wanted frontman, 36, wrote via a lengthy Instagram post on Thursday, December 12. “Unfortunately after some tests they’ve found that I have some issues with my heart.”

George, who posted a selfie from a hospital bed, added that he’ll need to complete “a lot more tests to determine the extent of the problems” and that he would need “surgery” before getting back on his feet. The British pop star shared that his hospital visit was going to be an extended stay, so he will remain there for the holidays.

“It’s gonna be a difficult few weeks/months… and Christmas in a hospital bed wasn’t exactly what I had planned!” he continued. “But, as always, I’m surrounded with love and support from my wonderful partner Maisie [Smith,] her family, my family and friends.. and I’m 100% in the best place.”

George confessed that he was taken by surprise by the diagnosis, but is remaining optimistic since the condition was seemingly caught early.

“Although this is a huge shock and no doubt a setback,” he penned. “It’s something I’ll take on with all I’ve got! I count myself very lucky that this was caught when it was.”

The “Glad You Came” musician promised fans he would keep them updated as he’s “probably” going to spend “a month” on bed rest.

Several of George’s loved ones and friends took to the comments section to wish him a speedy recovery.

“Here for you brother,” bandmate Siva Kaneswaran replied. “Rest up and get well soon ❤.”

Smith, 23, also shared her support for her boyfriend, writing, “Love you Max ❤.”

After revealing he was in the hospital, George shared a series of clips of his room via his Instagram Story. One video showed off his patient information board. On the dry-erase board, it stated that the one thing George wanted to do was watch the Manchester City soccer match. In a subsequent snap, George shared a video of himself watching the game from bed.

George is one of five members in the British boyband The Wanted, which went on an indefinite hiatus in 2014. In addition to George and Kaneswaran, the group included Nathan Sykes, Jay McGuiness and the late Tom Parker. (Parker died in March 2022 after battling a brain tumor. Following Parker’s death, the men reunited to rerecord their song “Gold Forever” in honor of their late bandmate and donated the tribute’s profits to The Brain Tumour Charity.)

Earlier this year, George and Kaneswaran announced they were getting back together for their new group The Wanted 2.0. The duo revealed they planned on performing a series of concerts in the U.K. and North America.

“Back in the spotlight, ready to bring the magic once more. The WANTED 2.0 🖤💙,” the musicians announced in October.
