A man allegedly attacked his 70-year-old aunt with a knife in the home they shared in South Portland over the weekend.
The 50-year-old allegedly attacked his aunt with the knife Saturday evening, leaving her with several cuts, according to South Portland Detective Lt. Christopher Todd.
When police arrived at the Memory Lane home, they found the woman bleeding heavily, Todd said Monday.
The nephew was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound inside the home, according to Todd.
The aunt was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where she was treated for serious injuries but is expected to survive.
Todd said that police will not be releasing identities in this case.
