A wild boar has been shot dead in South Korea after rampaging through a city and leaving a man with bite marks across his arm.

Police and fire department officials are investigating how the animal was able to make its way across Yangsan in the province of Gyeongsangnam-do.

When the boar – which police said was around 1.5m (4.92ft) in length and weighed 100kg (220lbs) – reached Hopo railway station, it left bite marks along the right arm of a man, according to the Korea JoongAng Daily.

The injuries were described as non-life threatening, but the man was taken to hospital.

The animal had earlier reportedly crossed an eight-lane road and managed to reach different floors at the rail station.

After attacking the man near toilets on the third floor, the boar damaged a glass door at the customer service area on the fourth level.

The boar was first seen near a restaurant in the Dong-myeon area of Yangsan at around 4.45pm on Tuesday, fire officials said.

The animal was later surrounded by police on a platform at the railway station.

Police shot the boar three times before a professional hunter made sure it was dead at about 5.43pm.
